The Final Confrontation

Blake and Sara traveled through the land of Lunar, freeing the towns that Zir's soldiers had captured. Dagoot had been Zir's top general, so none of the others offered as much of a challange. Blake's blade conquered and Sara's magic kept them both alive. However, as they traveled Blake found something strange growing in him. He enjoyed Sara's company, and he liked her. No, he liked her a lot. Its silly, he told himself, a dragon falling in love with a human. But he couldn't help his feelings. Now was not the time for such things... but perhaps after Zir was vanquished. Finally the time had come. All that was left was to free Vane, and to stop Dark Wizard Zir once and for all. Zir had not managed to break Vane free of its orbit around the goddess tower.

They used the teleportation pad to get to the cave of trial. But the caves defenses were no match for a dragonmaster and they quickly made their way through it. Finally they were faced with Vane... or at least what was left of it.

"Blake..." Sara said, looking around, "was this place always so run down?"

"I've never been here before either, but I'm betting this is the work of Zir and his minions."

"Speaking of which..."

Sara raised the crossbow that she had picked up in their journey and sent a bolt through the chest of one of the approaching soldiers. Blake quickly finished the rest off.

"This isn't so hard."

Blake looked serious.

"Don't get too over confidant Sara... Zir awaits."

They made their way carefully through Vane, running into no more of the foul beasts. Turning a corner they saw the reason why. In front of the guild mansion stood the dark wizard himself. Surrounding him were dozens of his creations, obviously the whole of his force in Vane.

"So" Zir said, his cold gaze upon them, "you've come, I've been waiting for you."

"Zir!" Blake called out, "your time has ended!"

"You are a fool to think you can challange me, dragon or dragonmaster it matters not."

Blake was surprised that Zir knew his secret. Sara looked at Blake.

"What's he mean...?"

"Later Sara... Zir, by Althena I swear that you shall not threaten this world another day."

"Big words, but can you back them up?" Zir gestured in almost a bored manner. "Destroy them both."

Blake calmly watched the advance of the legion. Now was the time for his most powerful spell. He had not used it before, but Althena's power would win the day. He held up Althena's sword. The blade began to glow with a pure and brilliant light. The creatures yelped in pain and looked away from it, but the light only increased. Suddenly, with a flash Althena's power bathed the center of Vane. When the light had passed, there was nothing left of Zir's army. Blake look up... and saw Zir surrounded by darkness. A darkness so absolute, so evil that it turned his blood cold to gaze upon it.

Laughing, Zir said "Even Althena's light can not penetrate my shield of darkness dragon-fool. Perhaps you would like a taste of it?"

Zir held his hands forward and a beam of pure darkness blasted forth.

Blake held up his shield. The power of darkness was overcome by the power of the dragons.

"Your darkness can not penetrate my shield."

"Perhaps... but your lady friend doesn't have a shield now does she?"

Zir turned towards Sara.

"No! Sara, hurry!"

Blake threw his shield towards Sara, it landed at her feet. She picked the shield up and held it in front of her. Zir's power impacted apon it, throwing her to the ground. But the shield protected her from real harm.

"How sweet, giving up your shield to protect you little friend. But oh... this means you have no protection for yourself. Time to die dragon!"

Zir sent another beam of darkness towards Blake. Blake held his blade up in front of him. The light of Althena's sword overcame some of the darkness, however it was not meant to be used as a shield. As Blake was hit with the force of the beam, pain filled his body, yet he stayed on his feet.

"I... will not... let... you win!"

Blake started forward, one step at a time, each step an agony. Zir continued to assalt him.

"Its not possible... no one can withstand my power for so long..."

After an eternity Blake stood before Zir. Zir let his hands drop and rested one of the hilt of his blade.

"Very impressive, yet you are dead on your feet. There is no way you can defeat me in combat now."

"Well how about if I do this?" Sara ran up to Blake and quickly spoke a few words. Blake felt his strength return and his pain subside.

"Little whore!" Zir stepped forward and slapped Sara across the face, sending her realing.

"You'll pay for that you bastard!"

Blake swung his sword, but missed as Zir lept nimbly backwards. Zir drew his own blade in response.

"So you wish to face me with the sword? Very well..." he gestured "come."

But Blake was angry, and he put his anger in every swing, in every blow.

Zir kept up at first, yet as the battle wore on he began to loose ground.

Blake seemed tireless, swinging the sword as if it weighed nothing.

"What... gives you... this power," Zir gasped.

"Love" Blake replied, as he shoved his sword through Zir's chest.

Zir kept his feet, but he dropped his sword and clutched at the hilt protruding from his armor.

Blake leaned over so that his face was close to Zir's. "Let's see your shield save you this time."

The sword once again glowed with Althena's light. This time there was nothing Zir could do, he felt the light within him, consuming his darkness.

"Noooooooooo! I can't be defeated... I am immortal... I... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh" and with that... Zir was no more.

Blake walked back to where Sara was, holding her cheek with blood trickling between her fingers.

"Are you alright?"

"Yea... but it looks like I'm gonna have a scar..."

"You'll still be beautiful."

Sara looked embarrassed.
