The Twilight Dragon

Deep in darkness the youngling cried
with tears no mother could ever hide.
Longing, sadness, filled her heart.
Bitter, then sweet, with a touch of tart.

Complex was she who lived for ages
Yet no wiser than the sages.
Raised on moldy truths and broken dreams
All she had was hope it seems.

"You'll be great. You'll be fine,"
Were words of that cheerful line
Spoken by the mother dear
Words that cleansed her quaking fear.

Father hidden in mountain clime
Your dragon child you left this time,
Not just tearful broken hearts
Or ravaged, beaten Vile parts.

Cried the child throughout the night,
But broken through without a fight?
Nay, this life was not enough
For she was strong and dragon tough.

Her mother raised her with fire unmatched
With magic greater than phoenix hatched.
For dragon and human both was she
Potential prime for all to see.

"You will be swift, you will be strong.
Black dragon the whole length long."
She kept those words within her mind
A heritage for her to find.

The father passed from the land
Taken by the Goddess's hand.
A new dragon to rise in his place.
A new dragon would rise to show his face.

Not her did the dragons choose
Not her who had so much to lose.
Thief! Villain! And trickery on her!
A curse upon unwanted fur!

She would take back what's hers by right
By magic, words, or frenzied might.
Her place, her love, where she belonged.
Who was the one who had been wronged?

Cornered in, the dangers rising high,
Forever she'll fight to as dragon fly.
For all these things both far and wide
Mean great when promised to a dragon's pride.
