Alex slowly started to come to. The world was still blurry but it was getting better. He could tell he was lying down on a bed or something soft. The ceiling above him was made of wooden planks. He could smell something good cooking.
Alex moaned as he sat up. He could a see a boy with brownish hair, and the same color eyes to match. He was decently built. Not as buff as Kyle, but built nonetheless. He kind of reminded Alex of himself seven years ago. If he reminded Alex of himself so much, he had to watch who he called a boy. He was obviously around fifteen or sixteen, and Alex was no ordinary boy at that age.
The boy started to walk toward Alex once he noticed that he was up. "Hey Grandpa, he's awake."
An old man walked in from what Alex assumed was a kitchen since that was where the aroma was coming from. The man walked over to the side of the bed and reached out his hand. Alex shook it. "My name is Gaius, and this is my Grandson, Mathis. Mathis found you about a mile from our house. It's a good thing he's very adventurous, or we would have never found you."
Alex finally grasped what has happened. After he put that strange pendant on, he was engulfed in some sort of flame and was driven unconscious. Then this boy, Mathis, had found him. "Thank you," Alex responded, "My name is Alex."
"Welcome to my humble abode Alex." Gaius said. "Mathis, bring our guest some soup."
"Yes Grandpa," Mathis replied as he rushed into the kitchen," certainly."
Gaius looked back at his grandson then back to Alex. "He's a very nice boy, a little too adventurous though."
"Nothing wrong with being a little adventurous."
"I know, it's just that, you see, his parents died when he was very young. I brought him in as my own, feeling a kind of responsibility for him. I just get really worried when he wonders off that's all." Alex didn't say anything, just looked at him. Alex could understand his concern.
Mathis walked back in with a bowl of soup. "Here you go," he said as he handed it to Alex.
"Thank you," Alex responded. smelling the soup, he was reminded how hungry he was. He hadn't eaten anything ever since he landed on The Island of the Damned. He wolfed the soup down hungrily.
After he was finished, Gaius asked, "So, where are you from. You were burned pretty bad. Do you know how that happened."
Alex thought for a moment. He would have to tell them about everything, from the beginning. So Alex told Gaius and Mathis his story, from his first meeting with Quark, to now.
When Alex's tale was complete, Gaius started to talk. "A very interesting tale Alex. According to you, you have to find some warrior named Kane, right?"
Alex nodded. "Exactly. Sounds simple, but I have never been in Lograndia, so I don't even know where to start looking."
"Well," Gaius started to say, "this Kane that you are searching for was probably an Ancient."
"Ancient?" Alex asked.
"Yes Ancient. You see, long ago, when the planet was still young, there lived a great race of people we call the Ancients. They had magnificent powers. They were said to have created magic on this planet. However, they were all wiped out during the Great War. Their remaining magic energy is housed inside these Matron crystals." Gaius held up a small orb that radiated a peaceful, green glow. "We humans get our magic abilities from them."
Alex arbitrated for a moment. "That's a lot different from what magic is on Lunar. We draw our magic from the planet itself."
"So in other words," Gaius said, "you won't be able to use your magic abilities since your not on Lunar."
That was the first time it dawned on him. He wouldn't be able to use his magic! This would be a tough journey indeed. "Damn, your right, I never thought of that."
"Well anyhow," Gaius said, starting to back to his original subject, "if you want to know more about The Great War, and Kane, you should head towards the city of Rivar. Rivar is city dedicated to the study of Matron and The Great War."
With a new burst of adrenaline Alex stood up. "Great, how do I get there!"
"Hold on there." Gaius pleaded. "It's a long way to Rivar. You have to first go south, to the village of Hamletia. You don't even know your way around Lograndia!"
Finally, Mathis stood up. "Grandpa, let me go with him." He pleaded. "I've always wanted to go on an adventure, and you said so yourself, he needs someone who knows this area."
"Absolutely not! It's way too dangerous! And besides, your only fifteen."
Only fifteen! That offended Alex a little. I saved the world when I was fifteen! Give the boy a break! Alex said something much different from which he thought. "I did a great deal when I was fifteen. I saved Lunar, remember?"
"But, but," Gaius was struggling for an answer.
"But nothing Grandpa!" Mathis hollered. "I'm old enough. And besides, my parents wouldn't have wanted me to be bottled up in this shack for my whole life."
That last sentence hit Gaius good. Mathis was right, his parents wouldn't have wanted him to be in here forever. Gaius had no more complaints. "All right, go with Alex."
Mathis ran up and hugged him. "Thank you Grandpa, thank you!" Mathis said his good-byes and started to leave.
"Oh, wait!" Gaius beckoned. "Here, take this, the Matron of the ice-warrior Nefraton." Gaius took out the iridescent orb and handed it to Mathis.
"Thank you," Mathis said, "and good-bye." Mathis and Alex left the house, and headed south, towards Hamletia.
The God of Destiny watched the events unfold. Byron returned to his master. "Alex is safely on Lograndia."
"GOOD. BYRON, DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA ON WHAT'S GOING ON ON LUNAR?"
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"WHEN THE HEROES RETURNED TO MERIBIA, THEY FOUND IT DESTROYED. BURNED TO THE GROUND."
"By whom?"
The God hesitated. "XENOBIA."
"Xenobia! But how!"
"THAT, BYRON, I DO NOT KNOW. BUT YOU MUST FIND OUT."
"Anything. What should I do?"
"GO TO THE UNDERWORLD. SEE IF YOU CAN FIND OUT WHO LET XENOBIA OUT. NOW GO!"
Byron vanished, heading to the Underworld. Everyone knew that Terranox would be a very difficult foe. Byron had to travel to the Underworld, where every malevolent spirit that ever walked any planet dwelled. The heros on Lunar just basically had to survive on the ever-crumbling planet. And Alex, had started a brand new quest to find Kane, in the new world of Lograndia.
