Nevanyk found himself face to face with a gruesome behemoth. The beast had a tail that was a straight as a cedar, with spikes protruding from its tip. Its vertebrae could be seen protruding from its back. It was twice the size of an ox, but yet, at least thrice as fast. Its jaws looked powerful enough to crush a boulder.
"What the hell is this?" Nevanyk said to himself. Before he had a chance to prepare, the behemoth charged at him. Nevanyk barely dodged, being lacerated be one of the spikes that lined the side of its body.
The behemoth turned around and prepared for a second charge. This time, Nevanyk was ready. The behemoth charged, and Nevanyk easily dodged in time. Before the behemoth could turn around, Nevanyk attacked with his naginata. To his surprise, it merely clanged. The beasts skin was as tough as stone! "How the hell can you fight something that has such a tough outside!?"
"You can't," said a familiar voice.
"Brazen!"
"Tis' I, Brother."
"Can't be! Your dead!"
Now the image of Nevanyk's brother appeared in the corner. "Indeed. I am dead. This is merely my spirit." Nevanyk didn't have time to lament on the past, for the behemoth was still attacking him. "Why do you fight this beast, Brother?"
"What do you mean 'why'?! Because it's attacking me of course!"
"Then why do you fight the Malachytes?"
"Because they killed you! I must avenge you!"
"You must?"
Nevanyk was still being attacked by the beast. He continued to try to attack it, but it was in vain. The behemoth's skin was impenetrable. "Of course I must! Don't you know what they did to you?!"
"Yes I do, but what's done is done. You can't waste your life worrying about what happened in the past. I don't want vengeance. So why are you fighting the Malachytes?" Nevanyk didn't answer. Maybe it was because he was preoccupied with the behemoth, but Brazen doubted it. "You fight them for yourself don't you? You only guise your hatred as a vengeance for me. The truth is, the only thing that your avenging is your lost pride."
Nevanyk was silent still. "I need not be avenged Brother. Look what your hatred has turned you into!" It was obvious that Brazen was referring to the behemoth.
"What are you talking about!? I'm not like that!"
"Don't be a fool! Your hatred and anger have turned you into a savage beast that no one dares go near! If you truly want to please me, then give up this silly revenge and fight to save the planet that we used to love so much! You must stop running from your fears! I am dead, but killing Vargan won't bring me back! Listen to your heart, and trust your instincts!"
Brazen was gone; disappeared as fast as he had appeared. However, the behemoth was still there. When it charged again, Nevanyk did not move. He remained standing, holding his ground. The beast leapt at him, then vanished. "Have I really become such a beast? Brother, I am truly sorry."
Mathis was alone in a room, with what looked like to him, a Malachyte. Mathis prepared a Matron and went into a fighting stance. The creature merely shook its head. "Fear not my friend. I am not one of those blood thirsty Malachytes. I am a Nezyte, the last of my kind."
"Are you really a Nezyte?" Mathis began to loosen his stance, however, he kept his hand on the Matron.
"Yes, I am. After the Great War, Vogeron tried to protect us. However, we just couldn't survive with such a small number. I guess it was just fate that we be exterminated." The Nezyte looked saddened. "However, there is still a chance with you. Humans can't naturally use magic, but they gain power from our crystallized auras."
That's when Mathis remembered that he was holding the Matron. It seemed kinda rude to be holding it there right in front of him. For all he knew, he could be holding this guys mother in his right hand. He quickly stuffed it back in his satchel. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be. It's a good thing that you humans are able to harness our used power. Unfortunately, just the power of a few of us won't be enough. You must be able to wield the power of all the Nezytes."
"How is that possible? The Matron is scattered all throughout Lograndia."
The Nezyte just shook his head. "It is time that I told you the true power of the Nezytes. After the Great War, there were still enough of us to continue on. However, Malachy's influence was still strong. And without the guidance of Kane, we began to fall."
"You see, each Nezyte has only a certain amount of power. But, we also have the power to absorb the remains of our fallen. At first, it was a blessing, as the old died, the new became strong. Our legacy would continue for ages."
"But after the Great War we were in disarray. All we wanted was more power. We began killing each other to gain supreme power. If it wasn't for Vogeron, we would have all died. Vogeron destroyed all the Nezytes with strife in their hearts. He gave all their power to me. To later on give to you."
"What!? How did you know that I was going to be around? How the hell did you know!? And then why are there still Malachytes around!?"
"The Malachytes? Easy. The Malachytes were in a state of hibernation. Therefore, they were free of strife. And how did he know about you? He didn't. All he knew was that the seal on Malachy wouldn't last forever. So all he did was hope that someone would come to fight him once more."
"So then where the hell did all the Matron come from?! If you have it all, then how can us humans find it, and use it?"
"That was all mine."
"Are you saying that you are actually a spirit?!"
"No. Nezytes have no spirit. Our soul resides within the Matron. Since there are no more of my kind to absorb my power, I still exist."
"Then, how can I obtain your power then?"
"Since all that Matron is mine, I can call it back when I wish. I will then personally absorb myself into you."
"What?! Is that possible!?"
"Anything is possible." The Nezyte closed his eyes and began to concentrate. An aura began to radiate around him. Mathis could feel his satchel lighten as the Matron vanished. Within a matter of moments, the Nezyte had absorbed all the Matron on Lograndia. "And now," he said, "the power is yours." The Nezyte vanished in a flash as the energy began to flow into him. Mathis began to feel the magic coursing through his veins. The knowledge and power of the entire Nezyte race was at his disposal.
"How can this be!? How could Mathis have obtained such power?!" Byron was both disturbed and confused at the events that were taking place on Lograndia. "His power is so immense!"
"INDEED IT IS. I SURE AM THANKFUL THAT I DECIDED TO HAVE VOGERON STASH THAT POWER SO LONG AGO"
"But Master, are you sure that's wise? Mathis, he's, he's..."
"A GOD." Byron was silent. "HE HAS EXCEEDED THE PLANE OF MORTALITY AND ENTERED INTO THE PLANE OF LOWER DIVINITY. UNFORTUNATELY, ALEX WILL NEED MORE THAN A GOD TO DEFEAT MALACHY."
"Is Malachy really that powerful?"
"BY THE TIME THAT ALEX REACHES HIM, HE WILL HAVE ALREADY ATTAINED THE PLANE OF ENERGY."
Now Byron was worried. No one had ever defeated someone who had attained the Plane of Energy. "Is it even possible to defeat him? I mean, he's an Energy now!"
"THAT IS TRUE. MALACHY NO LONGER HAS A PHYSICAL FORM. HE IS PURE ENERGY. BUT EVEN ENERGY CAN BE DEFEATED. AS LONG AS HE STILL HAS A FORM."
"But what can defeat him?!"
"AN ANCIENT RELIC LONG BURIED ON THE BLUE STAR. BYRON, YOU MUST RETRIEVE FOR ALEX THE SPEAR OF LONGINUS."
"The Spear of Longinus!? You can't be serious!?"
"I AM SERIOUS BYRON!" His voice thundered throughout the space. Byron was terrified.
"Yes Master. Whatever you say, I shall do."
"GOOD. NOW, GO TO THE BLUE STAR AND RETRIEVE THE SPEAR. IT SHOULD STILL BE WHERE I HAD IT BURIED."
"Yes Master." Byron bowed his head and vanished. However, he could help but think to himself, The Spear of Longinus! Has my master actually gotten that desperate as to use the very thing he despised so much?
"YES BYRON, I AM INDEED THAT DESPERATE."
