Chapter 29

When the light dissipated, Alex found himself alone with Vogeron. "Where did everyone go?"

"I have sent them to unlock their true power. Unfortunately, you have no more untapped power to develop. So I will inform you about Kane's power."

"Yes, please tell me." Alex was excited. This was the moment he has been waiting for.

"Kane is long dead. His true power lies within his sword, the Blade of Lost Souls."

"The Blade of Lost Souls? Why is it called that?"

"You see, the sword's true power lies with sacrifice. The user must first sacrifice himself, then the sword will use his soul to generate a vast amount of energy. In other words, if you wish to use the sword, you must die."

"If it will save Lunar, then I shall do it!" Alex was determined. Even though he knew he would lose his life, he knew that he had to do whatever it takes to save the planet which he loved. For the lives of every single living thing, he would sacrifice his own.

"I understand. If you are that determined, than I shall tell you where you can find it. Kane last used it on the top floor of Megalensis, therefore, that is where you shall find it."

"Then to Megalensis we shall go!"

"Be careful Alex. For Malachy's power grows stronger by the minute. I fear that you will have to fight him, and that he will be a thousand times stronger than Ghaleon." Alex's expression did not change. He knew what he had to do, and he was willing to do it. "Your allies must be finished so I will return them here."

Another bright light filled the room. Soon, they were all back in front of the phoenix, each with a new power. Alex could tell that each of them were ready for what was about to come. The greatest battle of their lives was before them. "Are sure you want to do this," asked Vogeron. "This is your last chance to turn back. After this, there is no turning back."

"I didn't come all this way to just go back home!" Mathis answered.

"Yes," Jezza answered, "not only Lunar, but Lograndia is also at stake. I couldn't forgive myself if I didn't do anything now."

"For Maria, and for Dreyken, I must fight to the end."

"I haven't had this much fun in a long time," Nevanyk told the phoenix.

"Very well," Vogeron said, "it seems that you are all ready to take on both the Empire, and Malachy. However, I wish I could help you more. My time has come, and I must go to meet my brothers. I am sure that the human race will be able to last without the protection of the last phoenix. Farewell my friends, and good luck." Suddenly, a pillar of light surrounded the phoenix. The party shielded their eyes from the blinding light. When the light disappeared, the phoenix was gone.

"Once again I am on the Blue Star," Byron said as he walked across the frozen desert. "It's amazing, how this cold world known only as the Blue Star, was once the beautiful Earth. Oh well, the Master has a reason for what he does. It was just this planet's destiny to be destroyed. It'll be revived eventually anyway."

Byron continued across the icy peaks. He knew what he was looking for, and he knew where it was. The Spear of Longinus. For it, many men competed. But no one discovered it. For Byron had buried it in the deepest part of the earth; the Marina Trench. Even with their advanced technology, they were never able to conquer the abyss of the sea. And thank the Master for that.

Byron now reached an area that was once the Pacific Ocean. It was now just a sheet of ice. He looked down into what was once the Mariana Trench, now covered by a glacier. Byron raised his arms and a blue glow began to form around the glacier. A blue beam cut like spike into the ice. The beam pried open the ice, creating a fissure about ten feet across, and thirty feet long.

Byron held out his arms, palms facing up. An aura of blue energy radiated from his palms. He waited, looking into the abyss for a few minutes. Finally, a small, blue light could be seen. As it came closer, it could be easily recognized; it was a spear. When the spear finished its ascent, Byron grabbed it. Byron could feel the power of the spear.

Out of nowhere, Byron could hear his Master. BYRON! QUICKLY, GO TO PAO! Byron didn't argue. In a flash, he was on his way.

Meanwhile, back on Lunar Kyle was in Pao trying to quell Nash's rage. "Nash, please calm down."

"Calm down! How the hell can I calm down when that bastard killed my wife! She was so nice. Always trying to look on the bright side." Kyle could tell that his friend was going mad. He couldn't blame him though. He might do the same if he saw Jessica be killed right before his eyes.

"But now, she will never look on the bright side ever again! I will never see her again! Why!? Why Terranox why!? Why the hell can't we fight you!?" An aura of electrical energy began to surround Nash. Kyle began to fear what he would do in such a mad rage. "Terranox! I will kill you!"

Out of nowhere, came a wave of blue energy that knocked Nash to the ground. "Get a hold of yourself you fool!" It was Byron.

"What are you doing here!?" screamed an enraged Nash.

"Saving your life. Your wife is alive; along with everyone else that fell into the chasms."

"She's alive? Are you telling me that Mia's alive!?"

"Yes, and so is everyone else. Including Alex and Luna."

"Mia's alive!" Nash was so relieved. As quickly as it had came, his anger ceased.

"That's great but, how do we fight someone who can make copies of people!?" Dyne asked. "And we still haven't heard from Jessica and Nall."

As if answering his call, Jessica stumbled into the tent. Kyle ran to grab her. "Jess, are you all right?"

She looked up into his eyes and said, "We were attacked by a fake Nall; a giant White Dragon. We finally defeated him, but Nall was injured badly. Before I had a chance to heal him, Terranox attacked. I had no choice but to leave without him." Jessica threw her face into Kyle's chest and began to weep. "Oh Kyle! I can't believe I just left him there! I can't believe that he's dead!"

"You had no choice. Anyway, Nall is still alive!"

Jessica stopped crying and immediately pulled back. "What!? What do you mean he's alive!?"

"Byron told us. He said that everyone who fell into the chasms were still alive."

"Oh, that's great!" That Byron! the fake Jessica thought to herself. How the hell does he always know everything? And who exactly is he anyway?

Suddenly, Byron could hear the voice of his master in his head. BYRON! THAT'S NOT THE REAL JESSICA! IT'S A CLONE FORMED BY TABEN! DESTROY IT! Without argue, Byron shot a beam of blue light at the clone. It stumbled away from Kyle, holding her side where she was shot.

"What the hell are you doing?!" Kyle demanded as he raised his sword.

"Don't be fooled!" Byron answered. "It's not the real Jessica! Look!" Byron was pointing to her side where he had fired. She was covering the wound, but it wasn't enough. Kyle could see the yellow liquid oozing through her fingers.

Kyle was stunned. How could he be fooled so easily? Now wasn't the time to worry about that though. He had to destroy her. Kyle's sword was ready. "Believe me, this is gonna hurt you more than it hurts me." He then dispatched her, with one clean slice across the mid-section.

Kyle stood there, looking at the lifeless heap that was on the floor. That was when he remembered his wife's dream. It had come true. He had just killed a creature that looked exactly like her. "It's dead."

"Indeed," Nash agreed. "But now what?"

"Well," Dyne began, "since she was headed to Taben's Tower, I suppose it's OK to say that Taben is the one behind these impostors."

"True," Byron answered. "And now, the rest is up to you. I shall make my leave now." And in a haze of blue, he was gone.

"We should visit Myght," Nash suggested. "If Taben did create these creatures, than Myght should be able to help us." Everyone agreed, and with the help of Nash's teleportation magic, were off the see Myght.
