Author's Notes

Undertaking a project such as this is not without its hazards. I've never done anything quite like this, taking spoken dialogue and still images to write a story, and the inherent differences between the artforms of manga and prose (mainly the still images) do not make the transition an easy thing. While a character is standing perfectly still on the manga page, sometimes I find I have to approximate their motions both before and after the panel I'm looking at, otherwise this story would be all description, dialogue, and no action.

I'm hoping that despite that necessary step, you will find this a faithful "novelization" of the story Confession of the Soul by Akari Funato. I have kept all scenes intact with an as accurate depiction of the events therein as possible. If you see Dyne turning his head to look at something in the manga then he will turn his head to look at something as well in this story.

This fanfic would not be possible without the translation work of Rebecca Capowski. I have kept to her translation with a few noteable exceptions: I use the American names of the characters, Dyne now says "cool" instead of "dekke" (a slangy Japanese word), I have added a few extra words here and there where a literal Japanese translation doesn't flow as well in English or where the translation had left out a line, and I have removed some of the excess punctuations marks and capitalizations which work well in comic books and manga, but have no place in prose.
