In times long past, the swords existed. They numbered five and were known by several names, but never brought together in one place.
Their creators were a pair of beings equal in power but opposite in views. Once a single being, it split into two halves, one good, one evil...
...each forged their own swords. The strengths and weaknesses of each varied, but each was powerful in its own might. The creators of the blades soon moved on, leaving the swords scattered on several worlds.
However, the dark one had a goal in mind. It knew what would happen if the five swords were ever brought together, and it tricked its twin into hiding two of its swords on one world in order to offer protection from its own hidden blades.
The light twin expected this treachery from its 'sister' and deliberately kept one of its swords far away from this world.
Three of the swords are currently engaged in a phantastic struggle at that far off star system...
The other two remained hidden and in hibernation on that one planet...and its orbiting moon.
After the third of the swords presently in another galaxy left the planet...which was known as Earth, the world soon was visited by beings under the influence of the dark creator. These dark forces influenced the peoples of Earth and were responsible for great wars and chaos that eventually devastated the planet.
Some humans, self-centered and partially influenced by one of the evil beings they brought with them, left the Sol system and voyaged into space before the destruction.
Others received guidance in the time of great need. The light creator left more than the sacred blades to aid the peoples of Earth. It left knowledge and power in the dreams of a few select people. Althena, later to be known as a Goddess due to this acquired power, was one of these.
Under the guidance of the light one, Althena took compassion on the most of the good peoples of Earth and brought them to its moon while the planet healed itself from the beating it had taken by the wars and destruction.
With the knowledge instilled in her by the bright creator, Althena knew of the blade still on the Earth's satellite and sent her four Guardian Dragons to create a sphere of protection around the moon. The Sword of Althena, as it came to be known, was well protected.
The final sword was still on Earth, asleep and unable to join with any of the dark forces that were present there. Althena and her dragons were able to seal many of the evil beings away, including the 'god' Zophar. Others sought to find the hidden dark blade, but stayed hidden for the time being...until Althena left Earth to heal.
Still, other peoples of Earth survived the destruction and lived in small groups. With the planet destroyed, the once advanced technology was lost. Hence, a somewhat primitive culture developed, though remains of the past could be found here and there.
Althena had returned the once great power of magic into full dominance on the moon... which was now known as Lunar. The Earth... which was renamed the Blue Star...also only had magic to depend on at this point. It was much less widespread however, and only fully took root in a few individuals.
To 'protect' the dark blade from ever being discovered by the dark forces, Althena left two individuals to guard the Blue Star and watch its recovery. One was the Guardian... the latest of which is Lucia. The other was in essence a Fifth Dragon. To conceal the latter, the essence was hidden in the souls of several humans or other denizens of the Blue Star at once. When it was necessary, these individual creatures would be attracted to each other to join together in order to defeat any uprisings from the dark forces on the Blue Star. The Dark Scimitar, as it came to be known, would not be awakened before its time...
On Lunar, the Sword of Althena and the four Dragons had to defend the planetoid from the attacks of those under the influence of the dark forces, as well as a few of evil beings themselves.
On the Blue Star, the Guardian remained concentrated on its efforts to revive the planet. The Fifth Dragon was the ever vigilant protector against all retrieval attempts of the Dark Scimitar.
The Guardian Lucia returned to the Blue Star after repressing another attempt by the evil Zophar. An individual on the planet, who did not know its true past, took it upon itself to rise up against and defeat another of the returned dark forces.
Neither knew that, in reality, the Dark Scimitar was about to be found and awakened...
